Tractor Ballasting in Field Transport Work

In order to reduce driving wheel slippage when a tractor is working with great traction force on the road, the driving wheels must have a corresponding vertical load. The appropriate amount of ballast weights and where they are placed is necessary to determine the vertical load. This article presents an analysis of the interaction between tractor traction force, mass, trailer and tractor mass ratio, and wheel slippage. The objective is to determine the interconnection between the ratio of the tractor and trailer weight, the wheel slippage and the road conditions in order to establish a methodology for determining the amount and location of ballast weight.
