Modern Rome

Roman transit authorities are attempting to correct the atmospheric pollution and car traffic congestion that currently trouble the city. Plans to alleviate the problems include electric and methane powered buses, trolleybuses, limited traffic zones, car pooling, satellite-tracked buses and improved transportation for the handicapped. A new metro line is also planned and a new tramway is being considered. The article also discusses the needs of historic preservation that poses unique problems for transit infrastructure development.
