Fracture Mechanical Behaviour of Lightweight Aggregate Concrete

Within a research project the fracture mechanical behavior of several lightweight aggregate concretes (LWAC) with a strength range from 20 to 100 MPa and dry densities of 1.0 to 2.0 kg/dm(3) were investigated in this paper. Therefore, the specific fracture mechanical parameters such as fracture energy, characteristic length, uniaxial tensile strength and softening behavior were determined in order to get a quantitative analysis. The gained values from the unixial tensile tests will be used to find a direction relation to fundamental material properties. Especially the influences of the different lightweight aggregates on the fracture mechanical behavior are of interest. The paper gives an overview on generalized statements and shows that further research is needed.
