Development of an Impact Resistant Design Support System for RC Slabs by Using Genetic Algorithm

In order to develop a useful design support system for impact-resistant RC slab structures, a 3-D nonlinear dynamic FEM, newly developed for impact failure behavior was combined, with the probability genetic algorithm (GA), which is considered to be a useful search procedure for combinatorial optimization problems such as structural design parameters. First, indices for evaluating impact resistance were studied; the, design simulation based on the indices were conducted by combining the layered nonlinear FEM with GA. From the results, the precision and usefulness of the GA-based design support system were examined. In order to obtain more practical design support system, shear reinforcement was taken into account by combining GA with three-dimensional elasto-plastic FEM. Finally, the effectiveness and future potential of the design support system were confirmed by investigating the effect of introducing a database of design plans.
