Reply to the Discussion by P.E. Grattan-Bellew of the Review Paper “Alkali–Aggregate Reaction in Concrete Containing High Alkali Cement and Granite Aggregate”

The author expresses gratitude to P.E. Grattan-Bellew for his thoughtful review of the author's article in Cement and Concrete Research, 35 (9), pp 1868-1869. Owsiak notes that Grattan-Bellew’s explanation of the course of the expansion curve enriches his own findings, which will be cause for further research. He states that Grattan-Bellew’s hypothesis describing the course of the linear expansion curve of concrete bars is quite significant, and that they are both in agreement that simultaneous formation of the secondary ettringite accompanying alkali-aggregate reaction in concretes matured in field conditions.
