A Unique Security Training Programme

This article describes some of the training and communications initiatives that have been undertaken at Zurich Airport to improve security operations. One of these measures is a new interactive security training platform. As of September 2005, anyone wishing to obtain a Zurich Airport identification card will have to complete the airport security training module. Zurich will be one of the first airports in Europe to implement the new regulation, which was issued by the European Parliament in 2002. The training module will be offered in multiple languages and staff can complete the course at any time and from any computer with an Internet connection. This interactive training module is part of Zurich Airport's holistic approach to make staff and management more aware and accepting of safety and security issues. The Zurich Airport has even created the post of safety and security communications specialist in order to develop a communication strategy to counteract the negative internal image of security and to involve airport staff in the process of implementing new security measures.
