Los Angeles: Smooth Takeover of Metrolink by Connex

French train operator Connex was awarded a five year contract to operate the Metrolink commuter rail service in Los Angeles beginning in summer 2005. Metrolink had previously been operated by Amtrak but is now privatized. Connex won the contract to provide 130 drivers, inspectors and executives to the Southern California Regional Rail Association. Special provisions were made to allow employees from Amtrak to move to Connex. Connex plans to expand into other areas of rail operation such as vehicle fittings and station regulation.
