Streets and Sidewalks, People and Cars: The Citizens' Guide to Traffic Calming

This guide contains four chapters, each of which is designed to help the reader better understand traffic calming. The first chapter describes the relationship between land use and transportation, and also discusses the relationship between street design and speeding. The second chapter gives a background on traffic calming, and details the connection between high quality neighborhoods and well designed streets. This chapter also describes how to evaluate streets and how to put a finger on problems that the neighborhood experiences. Chapter 3 presents 20 traffic calming tools, and Chapter 4 offers inventory forms and tools needed to evaluate streets.
