In Canberra, on 7 November 1977, the Bureau of Transport Economics and the Australian Electric Vehicle Association convened the Second Conference on Electric Transportation in Australia. Complementing the 1975 Conference on the Future Role of Electric Cars, the Second Conference was cast more widely to consider the benefits of electricity based transport systems in general. National goals of energy conservation, increased energy use efficiency, and improved transport service were considered against a background of future trends in demand, cost and technology. Speakers were drawn from authorities and researchers in the fields of energy resources, transportation systems, transport planning and policy, electric road vehicle construction and battery power system development. This report presents a record of papers presented at the conference and includes an edited transcript of conference discussion. /TRRL/
