R & D ROCK MACHINERY. AN INVENTORY OF R & D NEEDS WITHIN THE FIELD OF ROCK MACHINERY WITH THE EMPHASIS ON WORKING ENVIRONMENT

An inventory of underground machinery problems was carried out by interviewing 16 Swedish mining industries, contractors and safety organizations. Emphasis was on the working environment. Special efforts were made to find an objective selection of problem areas. A reference group from the industry with employees in majority classified the problems. The result is presented on a list of problem areas including short descriptions within the subjects of drilling, charging-blasting, scaling, rock reinforcement, loading - transport, service - mining and common problems for all equipment. A priority classification shows that noise, diesel exhaust gas, falling stones, working environment during scaling and whole body vibrations are the most serious problems. This investigation is intended to Serve as a planning and co-ordinating tool for R & D activities within the mining and construction industry, working protection organizations, sponsor authorities, equipment manufacturers and universities. /TRRL/
