SAFETY BELTS: EFFECTS OF LEGISLATION ON OPINIONS OF USE

SAEKERHETSBAELTEN: LAGENS EFFEKTER PAA AASIKTER OM ANVAENDNING

A questionnaire, measuring the experience factors, discomfort, anxiety, risk, effect and inconvenience in connection with the use of safety belts was answered by 526 car owners belonging to the same population as the group the questionnaire was formulated for in 1970. A comparison between 1976 and 1970 indicates that the law of compulsory use of safety belts generally has resulted in a more positive opinion of use, while the factor structure was unchanged. The change in discomfort and inconvenience was most pronounced among those who started to use the belts. Reel belt ownership did not seem to affect the degree of use, but did affect the experience of use. /TRRL/
