LOOKING FOR RECOGNITION : ROAD PRICING USING ANPR

This article describes how London’s road pricing program, which uses automatic number plate recognition (ANPR), is playing a larger role in anti-terrorist operations as well as traffic management and safety policies. The article discusses the use of ANPR by law enforcement agencies to cut vehicle crimes, combat prostitution by monitoring the license late numbers of “kerb crawlers,” reduce incidences of uninsured drivers, and reduce traffic casualties. ANPR also helps collect data on multiple parking offenders and evaders across local authorities.
