Design and Evaluation of Forward Collision Warning/Collision Avoidance Algorithms
This paper reports the development of two new Collision Warning/Collision Avoidance (CW/CA) algorithms. A large-scale human driving database was utilized for the evaluation, optimization and design of the CW/CA algorithms. Two important concepts are introduced: a "scalable" numerical optimization algorithm for unbalanced data sets, and the concept of the Electronic Brake Light, which was found to significantly improve the performance of CW/CA algorithms.
