Convergence and Per Capita Carbon Emissions

This paper investigates the history of a number of variables related to projections of climate change with the main objective of exploring if there is any historical evidence of convergence. Since this is the basis of a variety of policy proposals and many climate change projections, the paper focuses on per capita carbon emissions from the utilization of fossil fuels. The authors find that many assumptions about convergence that are often utilized in emissions projects are not based on empirical evidence. The authors also discuss emissions intensity of energy supply and evidence on gross domestic product per capita.
