City of Orlando Bicycle Detection Program

The purpose of this report is to provide a summary of the process developed and applied to provide improved bicycle detection at signalized intersections within the City of Orlando, Florida. The overall project had two objectives, 1) to develop a process for screening and identifying high priority intersection approaches for bicycle loop detection and 2) to prepare suitable design plans for bid letting and construction of improvements at critical locations. This report contains a description of the screening process used to identify and rank candidate intersection approaches. A table is presented that summarizes the available data and type of information considered during the screening process. Evaluation criteria used to screen the candidate approaches are described and a final approach ranking is provided. A brief description of the design criteria is provided, along with information on the plan development process, and cost estimates for identified intersection improvements.
