Chinese Economy in Relation to the World Shipping Industry

This paper describes how globalization and the growth of the Chinese economy have influenced the world shipping industry. The rapid growth in the Chinese economy means that China will need to import more energy and raw materials like crude oil and iron ore, and will export more manufactured goods to the rest of the world. The Chinese trade growth has come to a point at which any change in Chinese demand will have an immediate influence on the shipping market (container, dry bulk and tanker). Some carriers have already forged strategic partnerships with their major customers in order to help reduce the uncertainty of the market between China and western countries. This trend of cooperation will be further developed between container carriers in order to cover the high export demand from China.
