What You Should Know About Applying Zinc-Rich Primers
Zinc rich primers are industry standard for most new construction work. The ability to apply zinc rich primers requires greater understanding, skill and care than applying many other types of coatings. A properly applied zinc rich primer is the basis of a long life coating system. The article provides several key points to help make sure a zinc rich primer performs as intended, including these: follow manufacturer's data sheet and application instructions; use proper equipment that is in good working order; use minimum hose lengths for the best results; apply full, even, wet coats of the primer; apply the recommended wet film thickness; allow primers to cure properly before overcoating; check inorganic zinc cure with solvent wipe or coin rub test; and use the recommended tie coat or a mist coat process if required before applying the second coating in the system.
