MAP OF THE MONTH : L&N, COAL MINES IN 1966

This map of the month profiles the coal hauling operations of the Louisville & Nashville (L&N) Railroad in 1966. The railroad’s traditional single-car coal-loading points had been the traditional way of operating up until that point. By the end of the 1960, however, high speed flood-loading of unit trains that were better able to accommodate the growth in coal traffic, came into development. The map depicts the various service districts and coal producing areas for the L&N.
