FINAL REPORT ON TEST NO. 616, CADWELD SIGNAL BONDS

The purpose of this test was to determine by service test whether there is any damage to the outside of the head of the rail resulting from the use of the Cadweld Bond. There is no damage to the field side of the rail head from the application of the Cadweld Bond. Rail can be transposed after having been bonded with Cadwell Bonds. The cost of the Cadweld Bond and the necessary tools and equipment required in their application compares very favorably with the pin type bonds. The labor cost to apply Cadweld Bonds in continuous rail stretches is greater than for the pin bond, but it is less for maintenance bonding of occasional joints at various locations. It is recommended that the Cadweld bond be approved for use in bonding rail.
