Air Cargo as an Economic Development Engine: A Note on Opportunities and Constraints

Air cargo enables nations, regardless of location, to efficiently connect to distant markets and global supply chains in a speedy, reliable manner. Increasingly, air cargo is being viewed as an important indicator of the direction a nation's economy will be going. This paper has assembled and analyzed data for 63 nations to model and assess the development impact of air liberalize, customs quality, and corruption, the three factors that are seen as conditioning. The 63 sample countries include those countries for which complete data could be gathered for all variables in the models.
