Ramp Safety in Focus at Heathrow

A pair of 2004 incidents at the London Heathrow Airport have caused the airport to intensify its focus on safety. The accidents occurred within six weeks of each other, in March and April in daylight conditions. In both cases, aircraft pulling into gates struck airbridges. Nobody was injured in either incident. United Kingdom's Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) has recently published reports of the incidents, and the airport is moving forward with several initiatives to improve ramp safety, as AAIB found that both incidents happened because of confusing markings.
