Mechanisms of Air Entrainment in Concrete

Air bubble entrainment and stability in fresh concrete is a complex problem. The inability to routinely characterize air void systems in fresh concrete makes it very important to understand the effects of many underlying factors, at least to a qualitative degree. This paper has attempted to explain the relevant mechanisms governing the air bubble production and stability and to provide some guidance for understanding and controlling the air void system in field concrete. This is a complex issue, and it is hoped that the paper has shed some light on the key factors influencing air entrainment in concrete.
