Optimal Working Zone Division for Safe Track Maintenance in the Netherlands

A critical issue in the Dutch strategic and political project "Safe Maintenance" was the division of the rail infrastructure into working zones. This paper developed optimal rules for the working zone division. The rules were accepted by all involved parties. After the working zone division method was completed for the main lines, similar division methods were developed for the other parts of the railways.
