Investigation of Some Factors affecting the Durability of Underground Sewers

This investigation studied the kinetics of carbonization of solutions that contain calcium hydroxide in various concentrations in contact with air. The results obtained indicated the following: The sewers located under various types of transit lines or adjacent to them need continuous monitoring to ensure safety of the traffic; factors have been identified that cause premature failure of sewers, such as that the rate of corrosion of the components of reinforced concrete lining and shells is strongly influenced by the level of vibration affecting the sewer; and, that the stress-strain state of the sewer is a variable value that, together with the loading of the train on the shell, is affected to a certain extent, by the vibration hum created by the traffic.
