Routing for a Just-in-Time Supply Pickup and Delivery System

A just-in-time (JIT) supply pickup and delivery system manages parts transport between suppliers and manufacturers operating under the JIT discipline. This study presents the problem of designing routes for the external transportation of a supply pickup system in a way that complements the manufacturer's JIT production system. Presented is a single set of routes that collects small quantities of parts from a number of different suppliers and interfaces with an unloading and distribution system that delivers them to their respective points of use inside the manufacturer's plant several times during the day for JIT consumption. A mathematical model has been formulated to address this problem, assuming that the manufacturer wants the system to operate under the protocol of the common frequency routing model.
