Capacity of Chrome Ions Fixations by Blast Furnace Slag
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of various binders, Type 1 ordinary Portland cement, ternary cement and blast furnace slag, on the concentration of chrome (Cr) ions in leachates. The influence of the presence of another ion, molybdenum (Mo), in solution on the fixation of Cr was also evaluated. The static leaching results show that all stabilizing materials are effective in reducing Cr ions from the solution. Cr ions were almost completely confined in the solid phases, but the Mo ions were not completely stabilized by the ground granulated blast furnace slag. Also, no ionic competition between Mo and Cr ions was observed.
