COUNTER TELESCOPE FOR IN SITU ROCK DENSITY MEASUREMENTS. DESIGN, ENVIRONMENTAL DISTURBANCE AND COST EVALUATION

The telescope is designed with at least two plastic scintillator plates suspended by a revolving and rotating stand making measurements in various directions from the same spot possible. Necessary electronics is standard equipment for nucleonic measurements. Electronics and detectors have to be protected against environmental and electrical disturbance and interference. The equipment is placed in unity boxes which can be transported separately and mounted on the measuring point. Measurements of background radiation show that this effect cannot be ignored. This can be eliminated by designing plastic scintillator plates of a thickness of 5 cm. /TRRL/
