Rubble Mound Jetty Armor Damage
A small scale experiment measuring damage development on rubble mounted jetties is discussed in this paper. The jetties were arranged in a particular configuration in order to from an inlet and they were exposed to four long-term storm series, which were composed of waves only and waves on a steady ebb current. Only waves with head-on jetties are discusses in this paper. The experiment yielded unique topographic data of one structure acquired throughout each storm using a precision laser profiler. The data show that previously developed equations for predicting damage development on breakwaters can predict damage on jetties, but the empirical calibration coefficients are shown to be variable between test series. Damage developments for jetties with wave crests perpendicular to structure alignment appears to be similar to that of breakwater cross sections where wave crests are parallel to structure alignment.
