Design of Flexible Pipelines Using Soil Properties

This paper reviews the design conditions of three flexible waterlines. All the projects were uniquely designed to economically supply the pipe using some form of modified soil backfill. The projects have all been built and the installed results of the design are reported. The advantages were varied and resulted in cost savings for the owner. The pipelines represent two projects in Colorado and one in California. One project in Colorado was designed to use the native soil because disposal was a major cost. Another project in Colorado was designed for time constraints. The project in California was designed because of a limited right of way.
