State-of-the-Art Review of Municipal PVC Piping Products

The goal of this review is to provide design engineers with a complete information base on various Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) pressure and gravity piping standards and products, for open-cut and trenchless construction and rehabilitation. The contents should contribute to the decision-making process for standard and product selection when PVC has been specified or is under consideration. Various trenchless pipe construction methods, such as horizontal directional drilling (HDD) and sliplining, are briefly discussed, followed by information on available PVC options. Different types of PVC pipe, as well as advantages and limitations of PVC, are given. Trade names of proprietary products are omitted and replaced with letter designations, to prevent commercialization.
