PROSPECTING RADAR. GEOPHYSICAL PROSPECTING BY MEANS OF RADAR EQUIPMENT

PROSPEKTERINGSRADAR. GEOFYSISK PROSPEKTERING MED RADAR

The possibility of using radar for geophysical prospecting was studied. Fundamental questions concerning wave propagation, pulse dispersion and reflexions in geological structures were dealt with. The project comprises a theoretical analysis, development of a radar system, measurements and evaluation of the results. This project has demonstrated the possibility of using, from a geophysical point of view, very high frequencies. This means new methods of measurement and of explaining the measurements by using electromagnetic waves instead of potential fields. This also means that various types of radar method can be used. By use of the radar method an unequivocal interpretation of the results can be made. The fields of application for this method are: bedrock investigations, geotechnical investigations and hydrological investigations. The method is superior to methods of seismic refraction regarding rapidity, wealth of detail and simplicity. The method is insufficient in areas with high electrical conductivity. /TRRL/
