This study covers part of the thesis presented for obtaining the title of doctorate at the University of Paris VI in 1975. The following points are examined: (1) determination of the composition of an artificial lightweight concrete, leading to the manufacture of structural elements in lightweight prestressed concrete, and the study as a function of time of the mechanical properties of the concrete obtained; (2) determination of a thermal treatment by steam curing and a study of the influence of this treatment on the mechanical properties of lightweight concrete; (3) behaviour under instantaneous load of prestressed lightweight concrete beams either subjected or not subjected to steam curing. /TRRL/
