TESTING AND EVALUATION OF SAFETY BELT SYSTEMS FOR HEAD-ON COLLISIONS

BEWERTUNG UND ERPROBUNG VON GURTSYSTEMEN BEIM FRONTALSTOSS

The thesis concerns the vehicle-related possibilities of protecting the occupants by means of belts and belt tensioning systems. A definition is given of the basic requirements for a passenger restraining system with regard to head-on collisions; these are basically the achievement of the adjustable occupier loadings and the fast rate of action of the system. Tests were carried out on dummies as well as living persons to evaluate the upper limit value of freedom from pain. This work gives suggestions for the construction and further development of seat belt systems which allow the occupants to decelerate with the passenger cell at the earliest opportunity. /TRRL/
