The test field is instrumented for measurements of surface temperature, roadbase temperature, air temperature, air humidity and net radiation. The following types of pavement were studied: conventional uninsulated pavements, insulated pavements with varying depth of insulating layer, insulated pavements with varying thickness of insulation, insulated pavements with varying roadbase material and an uninsulated pavement with a thick layer of bitumen bound gravel. The results of the measurements showed that the lowest surface temperature occurred on top-insulated sections. Somewhat higher temperatures were recorded on deeper insulated pavements and on pavements of crushed stone, both uninsulated and insulated ones. The highest surface temperatures were found on uninsulated sections with roadbase gravel. The measurements at the test field will be continued as from September 1977 and more comprehensive data will be recorded. The continuous measurements are planned to go on for the next few years.
