'Smart' Transportation for Sustainable Development: A Case Study for Toronto

This paper presents background information on the City of Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area and discusses the city's transportation vision. The main goal of the vision is to improve the competitiveness of public transit and reduce dependence on automobile travel. The paper also describes the existing transportation system, including highway networks and transit system; presents a planning approach to achieve the vision; discusses implications for a new transportation plan; and details lessons learned through the planning process.
