Placement Tolerance Clouds
Just as there are tolerances in the fabrication of a bar, there are also tolerances in the placing of a bar in a concrete structural member. This creates potential placement tolerance clouds. This article, part of a continuing series on constructability issues, points out that the space a designer expects to be available for items such as beam bars passing through columns or embeds in walls may not be what is actually available in the field due to these placement tolerance clouds. Designers should be aware of these placement clouds so they can factor them into their design options.
