User Benefits and Economic Impact Cincinnati Eastern Corridor Multimodal Transportation Investments

The objective of this paper is to provide insight into the short and long-term implications of making a major multimodal transportation investment in the Eastern Corridor. Those investments include bus, rail (new to the region), and highway investments. Defining economic benefits as “an increase in the prosperity and incomes of people and institutions”, two types of benefits were estimated: (1) Travel Efficiency Benefits - Transportation cost savings that result from improvements to the corridor; and (2) Economic Impact - Reduced transportation costs in the corridor can encourage economic activity to shift to the corridor. Then, the transportation investment can aid the economic development process to the benefit of the corridor area.
