TAKING CARE OF INSULATED POINTS
The safe and reliable operation of a railroad requires that insulated joints in railroad track must maintain a sound mechanical connection as well as sufficient electrical insulation. The joints also play a significant role in railroad signal problems such as induced electromagnetic interference from alternating-current power lines, also known as AC interference. This article examines AC interference, failure in insulated joints, Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) requirements, and different methods for inspecting the joints.
