ONE FLEET FOR 1 BRIDGE : AUTOMATED ANTI-ICING SYSTEM HELPS TAKE THE GUESSWORK, TIME AND LABOR OUT OF SNOW AND ICE CONTROL IN NORTH DAKOTA

Automated anti-icing on bridges in North Dakota is the focus of this winter road maintenance profile. The North Dakota Department of Transportation uses a road weather information system (RWIS) placed in a high accident area to automatically spray anti-icing chemicals on the bridge in the event of freezing conditions. The article describes other sensor functions, such as temperature, moisture, form of moisture, and deicing levels. Program parameters can be set for high and low temperatures, as well as excessive wind speeds, in order to prevent automatic activation of the system during undesirable weather conditions.
