Freeway Performance Measurement System (PeMS), Version 3 Phase II

This report discusses four tasks associated with this continuing Freeway Performance Measurement System (PeMS) project. In task 1, the researchers quantified the reduction in delay from optimum freeway operations by developing and implementing an algorithm that quantifies potential travel time reduction. Task 2 involved developing an algorithm for travel time predictions for Los Angeles, and releasing these estimates to the public through the PeMS website. Task 3 involved training California Dept. of Transportation (Caltrans) staff in using the PeMS, while the fourth task involved improving system robustness and maintenance.
