Slow Food Movement is Kindred to TDM Concepts

The Slow Food movement, which began in Italy in 1986, is in response to the hazardous speeding up of modern post-industrial society yhat has resulted in the deterioration of quality of life.It respons particularly to the ills of fast food and the resulting elimination of table conversation. TDM programs that concentrate on encouraging walking, bicycling and transit might gain some valuable ideas from the Slow Food movements, particularly for cities that focus on downtown tourism based on preserving cultural identity.
