From Aesthetic Vision to Concrete Reality

In working toward improving the visual quality of the concrete-built environment, it is important to distinguish both the "consumers" and the "creators" of aesthetic concrete. This article defines these groups and highlights the role each of them play in advocating and developing better aesthetics in concrete. Consumers can include the public, elected officials and government agencies. Creators include architects and engineers; engineering and architecture students; and contractors and craftsmen. Educating engineers and construction workers, and soliciting input from the public, are seen as the keys to improving the appearance of the final concrete product.
