Polyfelt Beats the British Weather

A soft organic subgrade with a water table near the surface at Romney Marsh in Kent posed problems for the construction of the high speed Channel Tunnel Rail Link (CTRL) which crosses the marsh close to the tunnel entrance at Folkestone. Geotextiles were part of the solution to construction of the CTRL across this marshy area. The solution suggested was two layers of Polyfelt Rock PEC 150, a high strength geocomposite consisting of a mechanically bonded, continuous filament, nonwoven with high tenacity polyester reinforcing yarns, one parallel and normal to the platform axis.
