Creating a New Generation of Pavements: An Action Plan to Execute the Blueprint for Portland Cement Concrete Research
Realizing that cooperative research is a key to creating better concrete pavements, the American Concrete Pavement Association created a blueprint for innovation, applied research and technology of portland cement concrete pavement. The blueprint was the brain child of a specially designed task force made up of material suppliers, contractors, state and federal officials, academicians, and equipment manufacturers. They examined the industry's needs and developed five goals on which it would be efficacious to focus research efforts. The goals included best practices, reduction of startup costs, reduction of public inconvenience and user delays that are associated with construction and maintenance of concrete pavements, development of cost-competitive paving alternatives, and increasing the likelihood of concrete pavements achieving their design expectations. This document addresses the implementation of the blueprint research program. It includes standards, timelines, specific descriptions, research needs, how long the construction will take, and estimated financing for research projects.
