EXPERIMENTAL TESTING OF A SCINTILLATION DEVICE DESIGNED TO DETECT COBALT-60 IN SEEDED DETONATOR CAPS

Tests were conducted to determine the operating characteristics, capabilities, and limitations of a nuclear scintillation detection system developed by Catholic University of America for use in conjunction with the detection of Cobalt-60 in seeded explosive detonator caps. Results were generally favorable except for the inability of the device to detect rapidly moving sources and the relative ease with which a source might be shielded from the detector. (Author)
