Ice Patrol Duty
The International Ice Patrol is a 16-member Coast Guard unit comprised of 4 active-duty officers, 10 active-duty enlisted members and 2 civilians. This article describes the job requirements and responsibilities of each member of the unit. All of the officers must have an advanced degree in a geophysical science related to oceanography or meteorology. Most of the enlisted members are marine science technicians. Every active-duty member of the International Ice Patrol stands watch in the operations center and deploys as a member of the Ice Reconnaissance Detachment.
