CONCRETE. IN: STRUCTURAL CONDITION ASSESSMENT

A thorough understanding of concrete is mandatory when attempting to evaluate the structural condition of a concrete structure to develop an appropriate plan for future use. The first step in any evaluation is to identify a qualified team of investigators. The person in charge of the team should be a structural engineer who has passed the professional engineers examination and is in good standing within the profession. The lead engineer first should perform an extensive review of all existing information about the structure, which among other materials, includes the following three items: (1) design documents; (2) construction records; and (3) service history.
