SHIPPING ECONOMICS: WHERE WE ARE AND LOOKING AHEAD FROM AN INSTITUTIONAL ECONOMICS PERSPECTIVE

The goal of this paper is to examine the degree at which the economics of the shipping sector is understood. The focus is on the present status and where it may be useful to go in the future. Additionally, the paper poses this fundamental question: to what extent is shipping economics keeping abreast of some of the large shifts that are taking place in the study of economics. While the paper has taken a broad look at shipping economics within the context of the institutional operational framework, it has also sought a broader analysis within an institutional economics framework. Some of the problems faced are highlighted.
