TRANSVERSE CUTTING UNITS' FLEXIBLE USES
This article describes the assessment process needed for dressing and selecting the most appropriate transverse cutting units (TCUs), and uses examples to illustrate their flexibility as hard excavation tools. Materials assessment is the starting point of TCU use. Major materials attributes that need to be catalogued are discussed, including composition, abrasivity, and strength. The article then lists different aspects of picks and their rock corollaries. Key applications for TCUs include demolition, bulk excavation, and scaling. A fourth ; and tree stump removal plus slot cutting; single operation underwater excavation and crushing. Numerous sections detail TCU equipment in the aforementioned applications , and a summary provides some added benefits to TCUs over other systems.
