AVAILABILITY AND ACCESSIBILITY OF LIABILITY AND EXCESS INSURANCE FOR PUBLIC TRANSIT AND PRIVATE COACH OPERATORS

This digest provides alternatives to conventional liability insurance coverage for public transit agencies and private motorcoach operators in response to the insurance crisis of the early 2000s that has had, and continues to have, a significant impact on the cost and availability of liability insurance coverage. The digest discusses the role of liability insurance in the passenger transportation industry, current insurance issues and impacts on public transit agencies and private motorcoach operators, alternative insurance models, and activities and strategies that can help to mitigate liability insurance costs and availability.
